Gerhard Gepp lives in Pressbaum (Lower Austria) and is a graphic artist, illustrator and painter. His art reflects the attempt to trace down the essence of things and triggers contemplation within the beholder.

Gerhard Gepp was born 1940 in Pressbaum. From 1964 until 1976 he worked as graphic designer and illustrator. He won the "Plakatpreis"/Poster Prize of Vienna and the Rizzoli-Price Milano.

His works were published in magazines in Germany and Switzerland. From 1976 he made drawings, gouaches and oil paintings that were exhibited in the BAWAG-Foundation in Vienna.

Gepp did further exhibitions in Austria and Germany as well as presentations of his work at art fairs in Basel, Cologne and Gent. His mainly large-sized acrylic paintings have a surrealistic touch and trigger contemplation that often leads to desire and melancholia.

Gepp also is a poet amongst the satirists. Since 1989 he worked on the series called “Poetic Satire” that is characterized through subtle humour. In this acrylic work series Gepp uses the typical instruments of caricature, like deformation and distortion.

Gerhard Gepp’s illustrations were published in daily and weekly newspapers like Der Standard, Die Presse, Süddeutsche Zeitung and Die Zeit.
