Brandl Herbert
Graz *1959
Herbert Brandl is one of the internationally most renowned Austrian artists and is called a representative of Neo-Expressionism. The subject of his art is nature, a sujet that nowadays nearly is lost in painting. Herbert Brandl paints abstract as well as realistic, with brush, broom and hands, rhythmic and most of the time at high speed.
Herbert Brandl was born 1959 in Graz. He studied at the Academy of Applied Arts Vienna with Herbert Tasquil and Peter Weibel. In the 1980ies his career speeded up rapidly. But he never saw himself as part of the so-called “Neue Wilde”/”New Wild Ones” (a group of Austrian expressionist painters in the 1980s). Brandl took part in the Documenta in Kassel and represented Austria at the Venice Biennale 2007.
