Johann Jascha's works are snapshots of emotional states.
The Upper Austrian painter and draughtsman studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna from 1963 to 1967.
In the 1960s, Jascha attracted attention as an actionist when he surprised elegant vernissage audiences with shouting actions and gestural performances.
In his drawings of the 70s, he translated his own motor skills into the visual arts. Stretched, torn up beings with dramatic, aggressive gestures dominated his drawings. Jascha's figures are creatures that articulate an inner state of mind and thus bring the unimaginable and surreal to paper.
From the 80s onwards, Jascha abstracted his figures. In his nervously expressive, dynamic compositions, colour surfaces are assigned to completely autonomous line structures.
In addition, colorfulness is increasingly used as an emotional component. In his works since the turn of the millennium, Jascha has processed impressions of his stays abroad. These led him to South Africa, Haiti, Ceylon and Bali, to the Caribbean and to Thailand. His fascination with Thailand can be understood, for example, in the high horizon line, the seemingly dance-like line constellations and the bright colours.
Some of his works can be found in public space. He also received commissions for percent for art. In 2013 he was awarded the art prize of the province of Upper Austria. Johann Jascha lives and works in Wilhering.
