A colourful tangle of forms, dense undergrowth of lines, violent strokes, figures and faces, associations, realities, myths. The artist keeps records of his fears and obsessions, his pain, grief and passions. "Ringel does not paint ideas. He merely colours his spirits", wrote his poet friend Wolfgang Bauer.

Franz Ringel was born in Graz in 1940. In Vienna he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts with Albert Paris Gütersloh, his works are characterized by expressiveness and colorfulness.

In 1964 Ringel exhibited for the first time at the Vienna Secession, four years later with Martha Jungwirth, Kurt Kocherscheidt, Peter Pongratz and Wolfgang Zeppl-Sperl. Title of the group exhibition: "Realities". The "Parade of Crocodiles" was criticized above all by the Fantastic Realists, because there was no actual philosophy or political orientation behind these 'realities'.
