Heinz Mack – sculptor and painter.
His central artistic theme is light and his non-objective sculptures and pictures are media related to it.
The overall work of the artist is extraordinarily versatile: sculptures made of different materials, light steles, light rotors, light reliefs and light cubes. His oeuvre also includes paintings, drawings, inks, pastels, prints, photography and bibliophile works as well as the design of public squares, church rooms, stage sets and mosaics.

Born in 1931 in Lollar, Hesse, Heinz Mack attended the Staatliche Kunstakademie Düsseldorf from 1950 to 1953 and also completed his studies in philosophy.
In 1957 he founded the artist group ZERO in Düsseldorf. At that time, this association represented a “zero hour” for a new artistic beginning after the Second World War.
The artist participated in two documenta exhibitions, as well as in the Venice Biennale. He is also a member of the Akademie der Künste in Berlin and received his professorship in the course of a teaching assignment in Japan.

Heinz Mack has been awarded a number of prizes from the art world. He was also honoured with the “Great Cross of Merit with a Star” of the Federal Republic of Germany in 2011.
His works have been shown in about 300 solo exhibitions and many exhibits. His works are represented in 136 public collections, numerous books and catalogues as well as two films document his work.
Heinz Mack lives and works in Mönchengladbach and Ibiza.
